Attitude of Gratitude Award!

Money Saving Tip! - Twist Tie vs Ziploc

I have recently befriended a fellow frugal mom who has many money saving tips. I love her ideas, so I decided to share this one with you. For me, this was more of a reminder. Let me just say that I grew up in a very frugal home, so sometimes I have to remember that living frugally is not so bad and really it's good for my kids to not have everything. So, on a much lesser level, here's this week's money saving tip!

Is Ziploc more convenient or less expensive than twist-tie baggies?

So often, we see Ziploc bags being used for storage of little things and lunch items, etc only to be used and thrown away. Now, I love Ziploc, so this is a tip I'm learning from as well. They're great bags, but have we forgotten the much less expensive non-zipping sandwich baggies? Yes, I even as I type, I have a full box of them in my pantry that have gone unused for over a year... Remember the kind that fold over the sandwich to keep them nice and in-pocket? Many of us grew up with these!

Team these little baggies with a trusty twist-tie, and you have a sealed bag! If it's good enough for bread and numerous other grocery items, then it's good enough for me! Why spend the extra money on Ziploc - unless there's a fabulous coupon BOGO deal, of course - when the "old fashioned" twist-tie does the job nicely? Plus, you'll be paying a MUCH lower cost. Remember, you're just going to throw the bag away, right?!

My Publix Deals (...and Walgreens too!)

Okay, so I'm a little bummed that my Publix is no longer accepting Food Lion or Albertson's coupons as we do not have these stores local to us anymore. They are continuing to take the Walgreens and CVS, however, so I'm still happy. Those of you who shop at my Publix might want to take note of this new policy though. I was all set to use 6 $2/$5 Produce and Deli coupons today, but couldn't, so I ended up spending $12 more than planned. It was only a matter of time before they wouldn't accept them, so I'm thankful for the time they did allow them. I even got a few free items today, so be sure to check out the items in RED.

Local Readers - Closet Shoppers Consignment Store

I just had to tell my local readers about this fabulous "new" consignment store! I'm trying to spread the word, so be sure to tell your friends.

Closet Shoppers is a great newer consignment store in our area that sells used and new children's clothing. You'll find only the nicest brands and for very reasonable prices! Sheri at Closet Shoppers hosts the store out of her pool house once per month on the 1st Saturday of each month. The next Open House Sale is April 4th. Doors open at 8am and go until 2pm. If you're already a garage saler, be sure to make her house one of your stops!

If you don't live in my area, be sure to check around yours for consignment shops you may not have checked out yet. These are by far my favorite types of stores to shop for my children's clothing. I always tell people I'm picky about the quality of clothing my children wear, but I also will never pay full price! With consignment stores, you can often find the quality AND price you like!
