It's time for the Recipe Swap again! These cookies are one of my fav's!! I send them out to family at Christmas every year, and my Father-In-Law loves them. Plus, as the name shows, they are a lighter version of what you may be used to in this type of cookie. But they certainly do not taste lighter! That's the best kind, right?!
Slimmer Chocolate Crinkle-Top Cookies
(From Nestle Toll House Best Loved Cookies Book)
Ingredients:
- 2 cups (12 oz pkg) semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 Tbsp margarine, softened
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 egg whites
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Directions:
Melt 1 cup morsels in small microwaveable bowl for 1 minute, stir until smooth, or heat for 30 second intervals until melted.
Combine flour, baking powder and salt in small bowl. Beat together granulated sugar, margarine and vanilla in large mixer bowl. Beat in melted chocolate; beat in egg whites. Gradually beat in flour mixture alternately with water. Stir in remaining morsels. Cover; chill until firm.
Shape dough into 1 1/2-inch balls; roll in powdered sugar to coat generously. Place on greased baking sheets.
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 10-15 minutes or until sides are set but centers are still slightly soft. Cool for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely. Makes about 3 dozen cookies. About 100 calories and 4 grams fat per cookie.
