A friend of mine gave me this idea in order to save on the use of the more expensive freezer bags.
I used to cut up all of my veggies and freeze them to be ready for meals throughout the week. However, the onions always gave off such a stink to our fridge or freezer whenever I pre-cut them. So my friend told me to just put the chopped onion in a sealed sandwich bag in increments of 1 cup or so (whatever I need), then place those sandwich bags into a 1-gallon freezer bag. Not only can I use the freezer bag over and over again for my onions (cutting down the cost of buying freezer bags), but it also gets rid of the smell and double bags them for extra freezer protection. I love it and have been doing it with all my veggies ever since.
This is what works for me!

Ooh, this is a great idea! We've had onions ruin the taste of ice cream, and that's a serious problem in our house ;)
