I don't know if this is a regional deal, but a friend of mine told me that CVS allowed her to use a Walgreens $25 Gift Card coupon on a transferred prescription at CVS today! Are they really taking competitor coupons?! Have I missed this all this time?
Does anyone know if CVS will take other Walgreens or Rite Aid coupons or is it strictly pharmacy related? What a fabulous deal! Thank, Mary!!
Please chime in with a comment if you know more about this...
**UPDATE**
Thank you for everyone's comments!! It sounds like CVS will take only competitor Q's for pharmacy-related purchases. I'm so glad to know this and will certainly take advantage of their generosity! Thanks, CVS!!

I just did this on Sunday with a Rite-Aid Pharmacy coupon. My store (Chattanooga) restricts this competitor coupon policy to pharmacy-only purchases.
They have advertised for quite some time that they take all competitors prescription q's (usually there is a sign at the pharmacy cash reister). I have gotten alot of free stuff this way. I don't think they accept non prescription competitors q's though.
my store only accepts compretitors pharmacy coupons.
Ours advertises that they take competitor PHARMACY coupons.
My CVS (North Alabama) will take ANY competitor Q's.
My CVS accepts all competitors coupons. There are signs throughout the store stating that. This makes it really nice! I have gotten a few free things because of this.
I have also heard they do this with Pharmacy Q's but not product Q's. I have not tried this but read about others who do it all the time.

Last Sunday I used a coupon from a Kmart coupon booklet. The Kmart symbol was prominently displayed, but it was a manufacturer's coupon. I was worried they wouldn't take it, so I asked, and the woman barely looked at it and said, "Absolutely we'll take it." I mentioned the Kmart symbol and she said, "Oh, that doesn't matter."
This is so awesome. I have done this several times. Works great. Thanks CVS!
Per corp. they are all supposed to accept Rx-only competitor coupons. Where I live now, the first time I did it there was a major hassle because nobody knew how to do it or that it was supposed to be done. They did it, but not happily. Maybe the person from customer service I spoke to was wrong but she did say all stores were to accept them. Thats' my prob. w/ CVS...too much inconsistency!
I wrote to CVS and asked for the official company policy. They will accept competitor's coupons in the pharmacy part of the store only.

I don't know if this was covered in other comments but the stores are starting to limit how often you may transfer Rx's from one store to another in order to get a new gift card.So you can't get the gift cards as often.
I believe this is because some people have over used this gift card perk and now the companies are wise to it. I have read and heard you won't be able to transfer an Rx once in 6 months at some stores.
Regardless of official corporate policy I know of two CVS stores in my area that accept any competitor's coupons, even front end ones, and will go out of my way to shop at those stores. All CVS stores in my area will accept competitor's pharmacy coupons for new prescriptions, even if they say "transferred" on them. I guess I'm very blessed!
My CVS said that it will take competitor coupons but the competitor has to be visiable from the CVS store. The store I shop at has a Publix and a Walgreens right across the street :)
