Money Saving "Make at Home" Products

I love to hear how people stretch their dollars! Recently, I have been in need of a couple of items that I do not have on hand.

For instance, I was in need of brown sugar for a recipe I needed to make for an outing. Unfortunately, I had used up all the brown sugar the day before for another baked good. Fortunately, I remembered a post I had come across online HERE and was able to make my own! No running out to the store for my need of 2 Tbsp of brown sugar. I just so happened to have molasses and granulated sugar in my pantry and the recipe worked wonderfully!

Today, I have the need for dishwasher detergent, and let me tell you, I value the use of my dishwasher! So, although I could hand wash every dish in my sink and on the counters, I'd much rather find a way to make my own dishwasher detergent. Come to find out, it's really quite simple! I found this recipe HERE and will be purchasing the ingredients on my shopping run today. Hopefully, this will become a tried and true way and I won't be buying the expensive detergent any longer.

What money saving techniques do you use?! I'd love to hear about them! You can leave a comment or post on your blog with a link back to here.

My mom taught me the molasses + sugar trick and I have been using it lately instead of buying more brown sugar too!

This is a great post idea - I'm racking my brain for more money saving techniques!

Hi, We are constantly looking to cut out costs with 8 horses and 5 dogs - I sometimes think kids would be cheaper! Anyway, I left a linky to how we try and cut corners.

My favorite way to make my bathroom and kitchen chrome sparkle is by soaking a paper towel or dishrag in white vinegar, and wrapping the faucet (or whatever) in the soaked towel. Let sit for a few minutes while you clean the rest of the room, and then use the towel to wipe the chrome fixture...sparkling clean! And nontoxic and CHEAP!

I also rarely use an entire little can of tomato paste, so what I do is freeze the remainder in an ice-cube tray. That way I have perfect little portions (mine makes 1 TBS cubes) and one ca lasts through several meals!

Katie,
I am loving your tips!! Thanks! I never use the whole can of tomato paste either, but for some reason, I just never thought to freeze it.

Hi Stephanie, let me know where you find the washing soda. I have looked for it at some stores here and have not been able to find it.

Hi Shara,
I found the washing soda at Publix after looking all over at Walmart.
